Network Security for Protection against Various Threats
Network Security is a mandatory thing to consider if we want to avoid various threats. Some of us might only recognize some types of threats like viruses or malware, but actually the threats can be so various. When we learn the threats based on the attack, they can be included in several categories. First is passive attack. The passive attack monitors the unencrypted traffic. It looks for clear passwords and any sensitive information that can be used in another attack type. It includes various activities like unprotected communication monitoring, traffic analysis, authentication information capturing and many others.
The second type is active attack. In this system, the attacker is trying to break or bypass the secured system. The purpose can be done by using some methods like Trojan horse, worms or viruses. The attack can be destructive like stealing and modifying information, include malicious code, attack the remote users, and many others. Third is distributed attack. It requires the adversary introduce code like Trojan. The threat will attack using the intro malicious code to get unauthorized system. Third is insider attack. It includes a person from the inside like the company’s employee to attack the system. Therefore, only should we use Network Security to protect the system from the outside, but also from the inside.
Fourth is phishing attack. The hacker will create fake website that looks like a popular site like Facebook or PayPal. He will send an email to trick the user to put their password or click a link to steal sensitive information. Fifth is hijack attack. The hacker will then takeover conversation we have. He can also disconnect the information. It is also possible that we feel like we are talking to the original person, but actually we are talking with the hacker. He will request for sensitive information.
